Submission Guidelines
The Brautigan Library welcomes all unpublished manuscripts. In the spirit of Richard Brautigan's vision, we accept submissions without judgment of literary merit, genre, or content—with rare exceptions for material that is clearly harmful or disrespectful.
Before submitting, please note:
- Manuscripts must be unpublished works
- We accept fiction, non-fiction, poetry, and experimental writing
- Files should be in PDF, DOC, or DOCX format (max 50MB)
- Submissions are added to the collection following a brief review for adherence to our community guidelines
- Accepted works become part of our permanent digital archive
All manuscripts are categorized using the Mayonnaise System, our unique classification inspired by Brautigan's legacy.
What to Expect
After you submit your manuscript:
- You'll receive a confirmation email
- Our curators will review your submission within 2–4 weeks to ensure it aligns with our basic policies (e.g., no overt harm or disrespect)
- You'll be notified when your manuscript is accepted and added to the collection
